Rejects Blog Hop!

Well I took the chance and submitted two cards to PaperCrafts for their Go-to Sketches for Card Makers issue. Didn't get a happy email for either one though. Considering the odds (2760 submissions and only 288 cards would make it), add to that I'm a newbie, I honestly would of been surprised if I had received an email.

Damask Love has started a reject blog hop for thoe of us who didn't make the cut. Make sure you stop by her blog so you can visit other blogs with amazing rejects!

Moxie Fab Challenge

Here's the card I created for the Get Daring with Decorative Tape Challenge in the Moxie Fab World. It is also going to be my oldest daughter's birthday card.

Supplies used:
Cardstock - (white) Recollections, (purple) unknown
Tape - symphony from Tim Holtz
Brad - music note from Recollections
Mist - pink taffy Glimmermist from Tattered Angels
Stamps - (sentiment) Thoughts For The Day and (music notes) Rockstar from Inkadinkado
Ink - Dusty Concord distress ink from Rangers Ink, unknown purple
Punch - Threading Water from Fiskars

I border punched the purple cardstock, added the tape, trimmed it and then distressed in with the Dusty Concord ink. This was my first attempt at making the flower and I found this paper really stiff to work with but in the end it came out all right. I also decided to use the music brad instead of something typical for the center. After I attached the border and flower, I stamped the sentiment and music notes. Once everything was put together, I misted the card with the Glimmermist to give it some shine.

My Mom's Birthday Presents... And I submitted!

I've been sick for a couple of weeks now and there is so much that I've been wanting to do. I did manage to get my Mom's birthday presents made AND submitted two cards for PaperCrafts Cards Sketch magazine, that was the first time I've ever submitted to a magazine. Well I can't show you those two cards (maybe after Friday) but here is what I made for my Mom.

My Mom loves butterflies as you will be able to tell. I'm not sure I like how the card came out, I should of chose different colours, but after cutting the butterfly lace out twice, I wasn't changing anything. Little hint, make sure you have lots of time and patience when using the Paper Lace cartridge.

Mom's dream is to one day to open up a tea room and she scode the name 'My Butterly Cafe' years ago. Right now she has a little sun room that is set up like a mini tea room, so I decided it was time she had a sign for it. I started with butterfly-shaped canvas board that I had picked up at the dollar store. One side was covered in patterned paper with the ribbon underneath it and I stamped the other side with butterflies, flowers, teapots and teacups in distress inks to match the paper. Everything was then distressed with tea dye ink and sprayed with gold Glimmermist. I don't like how the lettering came out though, I'm going to get some chipboard or sticker letters and try to cover it up.

And of course if she's serving tea to guests, they need to know what kind she has. Well what she has is almost forty different kinds. To make it easier for everyone I made these tags that list each one and are colour coded for the different types of teas. They were also stamped using distress inks and I used my Xyron to cover the back of them in paper that matches the sign.
